Niger is located in West Africa and has one of the richest subsoils in sub-Saharan Africa, with large reserves of uranium in the Aïr massif, phosphates, gold in the Nigerien Liptako, coal in Anou-Araren, and tin in El Mecki.

In Africa, Niger is the leading uranium producer, far ahead other main producers like  South Africa and Namibia.
