Dr. Marco Ottenwälder has over ten years of experience in providing comprehensive advice, particularly to high net worth individuals and families with cross-border activities in connection with often very complex, international asset structures. Due to his extensive expertise in the entrepreneurial field, he also works with start-up founders, medium-sized, and large family businesses on complex tax and related business management issues. His technical expertise, as well as his empathetic, open and engaging manner, are highly sought after by his clients.
He specialises in international and national, procedural, and criminal tax law. He advises on tax-optimised asset allocation, restructuring of assets and business groups, succession planning considering all personal aspects of families and their members, cross-border mobility of private individuals, business tax planning, (self-disclosure) declarations, complex tax audits, and appeal and fiscal court proceedings. He is very open to technology and knows AI and digital business models very well.
Marco has worked for many years as a lecturer at various universities in Germany and abroad, for which he was honoured with a teaching award. He also regularly gives lectures in Germany and abroad, is the author of numerous specialist articles, commentaries (Foreign Tax Act), podcasts, and is an active member of the International Bar Association. Marco previously worked in tax law for seven years at a renowned German law firm in Frankfurt and before that for four years at a medium-sized German auditing firm in Hamburg. He studied business administration at the University of Bayreuth and completed his Ph.D. in 2014 on the topic of Cross-border divisions of corporations within the European Union under Prof. Dr Jochen Sigloch.
