Caritas Niyonzima has more than 25 years of experience with an emphasis on human rights, constitutional law, international private law, corporate and labor law, land law and litigation. She founded CN Law and developed the practice, in expertise and numbers. Today, the firm is known for providing an A-class advice in corporate law, ad hoc arbitration, tax law, banking law, labor law and international private law. Caritas is recognized by her peers for being a critical thinker, creative and delivering a high-quality service. Caritas is regularly approached for public speaking events.
Caritas has been an arbitrator of the Arbitration Center of Burundi for the past 10 years. She has more than 20 years of experience in advising entities in diverse commercial and non-commercial transactions in the private sector, more than 15 years in projects and programs’ assessment, conducting field studies in the rights of the child, and several years of experience as a law professionals’ trainer. Additionally, Caritas has extensive experience in reporting of regional and international meetings in collaboration with local and international non-governmental organizations and United Nations agencies. She has been working with several ministries where she has contributed to the drafting of the Child Protection Code in Burundi. She has an extensive expertise in drafting shadow reports on international covenants and representing NGOs before Human Rights Treaty bodies.
She has served as member of the General Council of Bujumbura Bar, the president of the Burundi Women’s Lawyers Association and council member of the East Africa Law Society.
