Together with Koen De Puydt, Jan Ghysels leads the team specializing in public, administrative, and constitutional law, in which he has years of extensive practical experience.

Jan is mainly involved in spatial planning and urban development, environment (environmental permits, soil pollution, waste, nuisance, odour), expropriation, government contracts and public procurement, government liability, environmental and urban development criminal law, energy law, construction and real estate law, medical administrative law (including pharmaceutical law and residential care centres), civil servants law, and municipal and provincial law. Within his practice, he also pays particular attention to human rights.

He advises project developers, companies, individuals, and public authorities, representing his clients before the Council of State, the Constitutional Court, and the Courts of Appeal. Jan has become a thorough negotiator with or on behalf of the government and is experienced in convict management.

Jan also combines his professional experience with scientific research. He regularly organises seminars and is also a much sought-after speaker. He is a deputy judge at the Brussels Court of Appeal and an alternate member of the Federal Institute for the protection and promotion of human rights.

Jan has many publications to his name and is in the habit of interdisciplinary working with both lawyers specializing in other areas of law and with technical professionals. Last but not least, Jan obtained the certificate of professional competence for lawyer at the Court of Cassation (Supreme Court).
