With over 30 years of Chartered Accounting experience, Matt has built a reputation for delivering practical, high-quality advice that drives measurable results. After graduating from the University of Auckland in 1992, Matt joined a Takapuna accounting firm, where he quickly demonstrated his expertise and leadership. At just 26, he became one of the youngest partners in a mid-sized firm, marking the start of an impressive career. Over 20 years—15 as a partner and three as CEO—Matt honed his skills before co-founding Bellingham Wallace (now Andersen in New Zealand) in 2012 alongside Aaron Wallace and Mike Atkinson. Together, they set out to establish a truly client-first advisory practice.
Matt has extensive experience in governance and strategic advisory across industries such as manufacturing, FMCG, import/distribution, and services. As head of Andersen in New Zealand’s corporate finance team, he specialises in mergers and acquisitions, sales and divestments, succession planning, management buyouts, equity, and debt raising and debt advisory. Matt thrives on navigating complex transactions, consistently delivering outstanding outcomes for his clients.
A highly regarded speaker, Matt regularly presents on financial and governance topics. Since 2011, he has been a trusted facilitator for The Icehouse’s Owner Manager Program and Financial Skills Workshops, earning exceptional feedback.
When not working, Matt enjoys life on his lifestyle property with his wife, Tarryn, and their four daughters or still hitting the occasional tennis ball. Passionate about fishing and scuba diving, he often explores the Hauraki Gulf aboard his boat (when he's not fixing fences at home).
