Rita Birungi Baguma is a partner at Ligomarc Advocates. With over 15 years of specialised experience, Rita is a distinguished insolvency practitioner and strategic advisor. Since commencing her professional journey at Ligomarc Advocates in 2010, Rita leads multidisciplinary teams and advises more than fifteen local and international financial institutions, notably including the Central Bank of Uganda. Her practice encompasses corporate and personal insolvency, receiverships, liquidations, administration, and business restructuring across a wide range of sectors, such as oil and gas, education, real estate, brewing, agro-processing, and general trading. Rita's advisory expertise extends internationally, with notable engagements in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom, China, and the Cayman Islands. She has significantly contributed to the development of Uganda's insolvency framework, having advised for the Office of the Official Receiver on the implementation of the Insolvency Act, 2011, and served as a principal advisor during the sensitive Administration of Uganda Telecom Ltd, which resulted in a successful business rescue. As a Fellow of INSOL International, Rita is recognised for her proficiency in cross-border insolvency and precedent-setting litigation. She actively advances MSME insolvency frameworks in developing economies through research, presentations, and publications at international forums. Rita is committed to mentorship, exemplified by her pro bono guest lectures at the Law Development Centre and the design and facilitation of specialised insolvency training for aspiring practitioners.
